Amazing Places on Lantau Island

It is near Po Lin Monastery.

It is 34-metre tall. It rests high up on a hilltop.

Weighing over 250 tons, the statue is the biggest seated bronze Buddha in the world - and one of the world’s top ten Buddha statues by scale.

There are 260 steps leading up from the base to the statue itself. 

There is a small exhibition on the life of Buddha. From here you can also enjoy superb views over the lush greenery of Lantau Island, the shimmering South China Sea and the flights gliding in and out of Hong Kong Airport.

1.Go to the big buddha by Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car

From Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal (Exit B of Tung Chung MTR station), take a 25-minute cable car ride to Ngong Ping. The Big Buddha is about 10 minutes on foot from Ngong Ping Village.

2.Go to the big buddha by bus

Walk to Tung Chung Town Centre and take New Lantau Bus 23. It takes around 45 minutes.

Lantau Trail

  • Lantau Trail (鳳凰徑) is one of Hong Kong's longest trails. This trail is primarily for backpacking and consists of a rest areas, information boards along the way. 

  • A game of two halves, the Lantau trail is a 70km loop beginning and ending in Mui Wo.

  • The trail is split into twelve sections, the first half of which will see you climb Sunset Peak and Lantau Peak, Hong Kong’s second and third highest mountains.

  • The second half is much easier, with some particularly beautiful farmlands  before your final ascent over Tai Ngau Wu and back down to Mui Wo. There are plenty of options for camping on this trail.

Take MTR to Tung Chung Station -> Take Bus 3M -> Get off at Pak Kung Au

Wisdom Path

  • Once you arrive at Ngong Ping, take your time exploring the main attractions – The Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery – assuming this is your first visit. Next, to get to the Wisdom Path, follow the signs of the trail from the base of the Big Buddha’s steps. Follow the path as it leads you through the woods till you see the wooden columns beyond the tree branches.

The Wisdom Path is a short 10 min walk from the Big Buddha at Ngong Ping. 

Discovery Bay

Discovery Bay is often seen as a place people go for day trips, hiking excursions, or when they decide to start a family, but there is much more than meets the eye!

  • The backdrop of sea, beach, and mountains offer picture-perfect views, no matter where you choose to lay your hat. From sailing and kayaking to handmade markets and beachside adventures, there is something for every member of the family. 

BUS. ~15 mins. Shuttle bus rides from Sunny Bay or Tung Chung MTR Stations take only 15-20 minutes.

FERRY. ~25 mins. Discovery Bay is only a step away from downtown Central.

Cheung Sha Beach

GO TO CHEUNG SHA BEACH BY FERRY AND BUS

  • You can take ferry from Central Pier 6 to Mui Wo. It takes 50-55 minutes. Then take bus 1 to Pui O beach (about 15 minutes) or bus 2 to Cheung Sha Beach (about 25 minutes) 

Tai O Fishing Village

The Tai O Fishing Village is considered as 'Venice of the Orient'. It is located on the southwest side of Lantau Island. It is the best example of Southern China's old fishing life and culture. 

People love to visit this picturesequre place, strolling through the small streets, exploring the surroundings, taking photographs and tasting best seafood and snacks, having an escape from Hong Kong's daily stress. 

Tai O has many special snacks that is not easy to find in the city. Lots of them are about seafood due to Tai O is a fishing village. People enjoy the grilled seafood, giant fish balls, grilled squid and shrimp and Chinese Sata andagi. Usually seafood here is fresher and more delicious. 



Tai O Heritage Hotel is a famous place in Tai O. Situated next to the Tai O Ferry Pier, the former Tai O Police Station is a western-style two story building dating back to 1902. It was one of the earliest police stations on Lantau Island. It offers 9 rooms for staying. 

FROM NGONG PING VILLAGE

  • Take bus number 21 from Ngong Ping Village.

  • Take '360 Tai O Pass'. Apart from taking the Ngong Ping Cable Car, it also includes a 20-min boat ride. 

FROM TUNG CHUNG MTR STATION

  • Take number 11 bus from Tung Chung Town Centre.  It takes more than one hour to get to Tai O Fishing Village.

Tung Chung Fort


  •  This well-preserved fort dates back to 1832. 

  • During the Qing dynasty, many pirates, including Cheung Po Tsai, made use of the fort. 

  • There are six old muzzle-loading cannons and Chinese archways. 

  • When the British took control of Hong Kong, the fort was abandoned.

  • It served as a police station and a college later.

Take New Lantau Bus no. 3M, 11 or 34 to get there. It takes about 15 minutes. 

Hong Kong Disneyland

It consists of seven themed areas: Main street, USA, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, and Toy Story Land

Entertainment: Flights of Fantasy Parade, Disney Paint the Night, ‘We love Mickey’ Projection Show, etc.

•The Disneyland Resort Line runs from Sunny Bay Station to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort several times per day, every few minutes.
